Entropy Demo Walkthrough

This walkthrough follows the Entropy demo from the Draenog theatre disaster through the first overworld loops. It focuses on decisions that prevent soft-locks in your understanding—where to recruit, when to leave town, and how side oddities like severed-head interrogations fit the tone—without spoiling every line of dialogue.

Draenog theatre cold open

You begin mid-performance. Demons hit the gates; wooden props become weapons; the fight teaches positioning under unfair constraints. Some players report a hardcoded loss beat where options feel limited. Play it as a cinematic systems primer, not a skill check. After revival and regrouping, your real campaign management begins.

Stabilize in town

Talk to survivors, note who can join through conversation, and locate the inn recruitment board. Preview reports describe hires with preexisting injuries and wild portrait art—treat those injuries as mechanical. Rebuild a front line of melee (mace stun, greatsword cleave, spear reposition) and a back line of crossbows or casters. Details live in Recruitment Board and Party Formation.

Restock basic supplies, then open Controls if camera yaw on keyboard feels awkward. Steam discussions mention camera friction; learning a comfortable bind early saves headaches in denser forests.

First overworld loop

Leave Draenog toward nearby wilderness once you have at least a coherent four-person party. Expect pop-up encounters on the world map. Prioritize learning armor gates: Pierce for tough hides, Blunt for smashing protection, limb shots to shut down casters—such as shooting a walking pair of lungs in the windpipe, as previewed by Rock Paper Shotgun.

If companions die, do not soft-reset endlessly. Entropy wants you to hire again. Follow Survive Permadeath and return to the inn. Keep gold flowing by avoiding a bloated active roster; see economy notes in Recruit Mercenaries.

Side spaces worth knowing

  • Soul Garden: ghosts ignore normal steel until you gather Soul Moss—use Soul Moss & Soul Garden.
  • Weird vignettes (severed heads, toxic inns): explore, loot, and move on; they teach tone more than DPS.
  • Save shrines and rest spots: use them before stretching into unknown fog.

Demo completion mindset

The demo is a unique variation of the opening with earlier power toys. Clear its available map pockets, test two formations, and wishlist Early Access. For Act 1 scope beyond the demo, read Gloaming Isles Act 1 and Demo vs Early Access.

Gear checkpoints

After your first successful forest clear, compare loot against Weapons Tier List and Armor & Spells. Retire novelty weapons that delay every turn if your frontline is evaporating. Cross-link Combat Basics whenever a new enemy armor type appears.

Finish the demo with notes: favorite role trio, worst wipe cause, and which recruit portraits you want to see again in Act 1. That journal becomes your Early Access day-one plan.

Optional objectives worth the detour

Talk to every odd cluster of NPCs even when the map marker pulls you outdoors. Entropy’s best worldbuilding is environmental and conversational, not quest-log paragraphs. Loot containers near the theatre aftermath; they sometimes seed early Pierce options that turn the first armored pack from a wall into a lesson.

Mapping your own breadcrumb trail

Draw a crude note of Draenog exits you have tested. When a wipe sends you back emotionally, that map keeps you from re-walking empty alleys. Mark inns, shrines, and the board. If you discover a vignette like the severed-head crowd, jot one line—“tone piece, low combat value”—so you do not mistake every weird scene for a DPS check.

Transition into tier research

Once two formations feel stable, open the weapons and roles tier lists and deliberately swap one slot. The walkthrough’s job is route confidence; the tier pages’ job is optimization. Alternating between them prevents both lost-in-the-woods syndrome and spreadsheet paralysis.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How long is the Entropy demo?

Expect a handful of opening hours covering Draenog and nearby routes, not the full Gloaming Isles Act 1.

Can I keep demo progress into Early Access?

Treat the demo as a separate slice unless Steam explicitly offers cloud carryover later. Plan to restart for Act 1.

What if I cannot beat early armored foes?

Bring Pierce or Blunt options, protect your backline, and rebuild after losses instead of forcing a doomed formation.
